The McCall Golf Course may open in early May, and the rates will remain unchanged, clubhouse manager Allan Morrison said.
An early spring and good course conditions have McCall Golf Course officials hoping for an early start to the 2007 golf season.
This week's wintry weather could make a difference in how early golfers get out to the course, Morrison said.
Rates will remain unchanged from a year ago, but twilight rates will be extended at the course to entice more golfers to play nine holes after 2 p.m. rather than 5 p.m., he said.
The twilight hour rates for nine holes will be $10 after 5 p.m. on Sundays, $15 after 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and $20 after 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and holidays, Morrison said.
The McCall Golf Course has 27 holes and the extended twilight hour rates can be used on any nine when possible, he said.
Golf course to spray for mosquitoes
The McCall Golf Course plans to add chemical fogging at dusk to improve the golfing experience, golf course superintendent Eric McCormick said last week.
The golf course has always had a mosquito abatement program in place but in the past relied on biological treatments to thin out the mosquitoes around the golf course, McCormick said.
The golf course will spray the course when necessary to control mosquitoes possibly infected with West Nile Virus, he said.
In addition to a chemical fogger, the golf course will use swallows and bats to eat mosquitoes and treat standing water to kill mosquito larvae, McCormick said.
The course also has upgraded software controlling its irrigation system to reduce standing water on the course.
"We hope our neighborhood understands what we are doing," Morrison said. "These are EPA approved chemicals. You are not going to get cancer; you are not going to get sick."
The golf course will only spray for mosquitoes when it is needed, Morrison said.
"We are confident that we will knock down 90 to 100 percent of mosquitoes per night," he said.
