FLOATING REPORT

Floating conditions are great on area rivers, according to area rafting guides on the Salmon and Payette rivers.

"The water is awesome right now," said Greg Felten, a guide with the Salmon River Experi¬ence in Riggins. "It is 60 degrees, a nice warm flow and great big splashing water!"

The Salmon River was run¬ning at about 12,900 cubic feet per second as of Tuesday after¬noon.
At that level, kayakers may want to take advantage of the Rodeo Hole, about a mile north of the boat ramp on U.S. 95 in Riggins, Felten said.

"It's a nice easy wave with no hazards nearby," he said. "It is a great place for beginners."
The weather has also been great for rafters on the Salmon River, Felten said.

The North Fork of the Payette River near Cabarton Reach is flowing fairly high and is an¬other great location for floating enthusiasts this week, said Sarah Gallant of Cascade Raft & Kayak of Horseshoe Bend.

The North Fork is running at 1,933 cubic feet per second as of Tuesday afternoon. The main Payette River was running at 3,616 cfs and was warming up
with the weather.

The South Fork of the Payette River was running at just 1,025 cfs at Grand Jean, 1,369 cfs in the canyon, 1,410 in Swirly Canyon and 1,683 in the lower river.

"It should be a pretty busy weekend," Gallant said. She reported no new hazards in the streams.
