Few problems were reported by law enforcement with the more than 1,200 skiers from 23 countries who came to McCall for a week to compete in the 2008 Masters World Cup.
Four Russian women skiers had difficulty making a shuttle bus driver understand that they needed the driver to take them somewhere, Sgt. Larry Stokes of the McCall Police Department said.
The women started to hit the driver to get the point across, Stokes said. No charges were filed.
In another incident, Russian skiers were trying to get a heater started in a house and had difficulty with it, and were talking loudly, Stokes said.
The next-door neighbor heard them and called it in as being suspicious, as the voices were foreign-sounding. A police officer arrived and got the heater started for them.
"Numerous visitors were lost and asked a lot of questions about how to get from place to place," Stokes said. "But the locals showed them or took them to where they needed to be."
Idaho State Police Cpl. Mark Wright said a group from the French team drove off Idaho 55 south of Lake Fork on Feb. 27 and needed a tow truck. There were no injuries or damages.
Wright arrested a Canadian athlete on Friday for driving, under the influence after he ran into a snowbank near Third and Jacob streets.
The athlete was taken to Valley County Jail, where he was booked and released.
Idaho law allows an attorney to represent a client for misdemeanors if the defendant lives far away, Valley County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Williams said.
